See again the recent flash floods that hit the shopping belt of Orchard Road after some very hot weather spell - and revealed that the "fine" drainage system still left something to be desired..... leaving particularly many basement shop owners rueing the damages caused by the flood waters - which may not be exactly "claimable" from insurance ......and with already some 6 million dollars piling up in motor insurance claims....Maybe our drainage experts were caught napping this time.. Fortunately, no reported loss of lives arising from the flash floods in this instance, but of course, many cars could have metamorphosed into "submarines" - especially those parked in the basement carparks......and the drainage expert planners should perhaps sit down and re-think, and do something about it to prevent such recurrence in the future. Ha! Ha! Maybe we should build a NOAH's ARK for standby, just in case! And also get the animals to line up two by two......? Hhmmm.......... Food-for-thought: maybe they (the city planners) can start planning to build huge underground cavern chambers, to act as reservoirs to store these precious waters, and also serve as huge bomb shelters and maybe provide subterranean dwellings of the future as well, and make Singapore the first underground city of the world, with "green theme" to boot plus "immune" from nuclear radiation fallout etc and then put to good use all the excavated earth (perhaps even discover some historical artifacts or precious ...
